Event guidelines: 

Eligibility: Ballet students aged 9+ are able to compete and attend the workshops within their designated level. 
Age Groups for Solos:
Youth Division 
​Ages 9-10
Junior Division 
Ages 11-13
Teen Division 
 ​Ages 14-16

Senior Division 
​Ages 17-19
Professional Division: 
​Ages 20-23
Anyone 14+ may participate in pas de deux, and anyone 9+ may participate in duet, trio, quartet, and ensemble pieces.
Professional Division competitors may only compete in the Professional Division. Professionals are not permitted to dance in pas de deux or group dances with non-professional competitors.  
Repertoire Not Permitted: Choreography that is subject to copyright infringement.
Please refer to the repertoire list when choosing variations.

Solo Classical
2 min, 30 sec max
$99 per dancer
Solo Contemporary
2 min, 30 sec max
$99 per dancer
Pas de Deux/Duet/Trio/Quartet 
2, 3, or 4 dancers
$70 per dancer
*Adagio and Coda ONLY for
​Pas de Deux - no variations
Small Ensemble  
5-8 dancers
3 min max
$50 per dancer
Large Ensemble 
9+ dancers
4 min, 30 sec max
$45 per dancer
Character Dance/Folk Dance
​*all performers (solos, duet/trio/quartet, small ensemble, and large ensemble) compete together* 
Solo - $99 per dancer
Duet/Trio/Quartet - $70 per dancer
​Small Ensemble (5 - 8 dancers) - $50 per dancer
​Large Ensemble (9+ dancers) - $45 per dancer

Scheduling: Competitor entry number and detailed schedule will be sent via email one week prior to the competition.
No performances will occur before 8am or after 10pm.
Deadline: The deadline to register for the competition is April 2, 2021

Stage: 38'x34' stage with Marley floor. No stage set is permitted. ​​
Violations: Should a competition number not meet the DC Grand Prix variation requirements or time limits, that piece will be disqualified. Dancers will be permitted to complete their performance and their teacher/parent will be notified.
Scoring System: Total 100 points to include:
  • Technique
  • Artistry
  • Musicality
  • Presentation
  • Style
  • Control and Coordination
Awards:​
  • All Competitors will receive a Certificate of Achievement
  • 1st, 2nd, 3rd Place in category: Plaque
  • Top 10 in category and division
Special Awards
  • Grand Prix Award: $1000
  • Youth Star Award, similar to Grand Prix Award for ages 9-10: $200​
  • Excellent Coach: Plaque
  • Best Choreographer: Plaque
  • Excellent School: Plaque
​The Washington DC Grand Prix jury reserves the right not to present all of the announced awards.
